Al Ihsan 2 – A Course on Islamic Spirituality
Course information
Imam Ghazali’s Bidaayatul Hidaayah is a highly motivational manual detailing the fundamentals of acquiring guidance through Taqwah (God-consciousness). The manual is concise and arranged in the form of a detailed daily timetable, making it most relevant in our times, and providing the reader with a strong inspiration and much heart-rending counsel.
The book contains three sections. The first section of the book, which dealt with the topic of ‘Obedience’, has already been covered in the first part of the course in Nov 2023. This course deals with the remaining contents, and is aimed to be completed within 12-15 sessions, under two broad headings:
• Refraining from the prohibitions of Allah
This section delves into how people disobey Allah through their limbs, including the eyes, ears, and the tongue. It also discusses the disobediences of the heart, by investigating its three most pertinent spiritual diseases, as indicated by the prophetic Ahadith.
• One’s etiquette with the Creator and people
This section mainly investigates:
– the etiquettes of teachers with their students (and vice-versa)
– the etiquettes of children with their parents
– how ‘to be’ with different categories of people (truly an eye opener!)
This adult course caters for both bothers and sister (min age 17yrs). In a traditional circle of teaching & learning, the teacher will carefully select the most pertinent parts of the book and give a direct translation from its Arabic with commentaries. It is important to note that the teaching approach adopted by the teacher for this course may not suit all. Hence, there may be remarks during the commentaries that individuals may find particularly sensitive, or even offensive. The intention is not to offend, rather, to promote self-reflection, and being true to oneself.

The cost for the course is £70. Discounts are available for those with genuine financial difficulties.
This course is free for young adults between the age of 17-21, those new to Islam (less than 5 years), and anyone who genuinely can’t afford it. Please message via WhatsApp if you fall under these 3 categories.
